Welcome to Silent Book Club's Hoboken Chapter (aka "Hoboken SBC"), where reading meets community on your terms. As part of a worldwide network of book lovers, we favor independent reading choices and quiet connection over assigned books and monitored discussions. If a traditional book club were an English class, you can think of Silent Book Club meetups like spending recess at the school library.
Simply bring whatever you're reading—paperback, e-book, comic book, graphic novel, or audiobook—the choice is entirely yours! We also welcome other quiet activities such as knitting, journaling, watercolor painting, and crafting, as long as your activity doesn't disrupt those around you.
Each meetup lasts approximately 2 hours and follows this structure:
Participate as much or as little as your social energy allows! Feeling like reading for the full two hours? Go for it. Prefer to leave after quiet time? That's fine too. Everyone's comfort level is different; however you choose to engage during our meetups is your call.
We meet 2-3 times monthly in public spaces throughout Hoboken. Our hosting venues have included: Symposia Community Bookstore (@symposiabookstore), Hoboken Free Public Library (@hobokenlibrary), Cafe Vista Hoboken (@cafevistahoboken), Boomerang Bites (@boomerangbites), Icy Melon (website), Paris Baguette Hoboken, City Bistro (@citybistrohoboken), Sweven (@swevenhbkn), Hey Coffee People (@heycoffeepeople), and Dungeon Books (@dungeonbooks).
Registration & Cost
Registration is required for all meetups due to limited venue capacity. RSVP links can be found under the Upcoming Meetups tab on our website.
